
An article in today’s Atlantic Magazine Online opened my eyes about the history of Gothic Architecture in American Higher Education.

There was a movement in the 1800’s to emulate the Oxbridgian idea of building around a quadrangle which seems over time to have become known as Collegiate Gothic. The history of this design and it’s influence are something I took for granted, but no more. I recommend taking a moment to read the article, it is fascinating.
